@Rob It wasn't my intent to discount the contributions you've been making to fixing Oxite, though I think it has gotten a lot of undo attention (which I'm contributing to ironically), and that you are the only one, not the community. I'm sure their team appreciates it.

@Leon there is so much competition in blogging software already... I parody blogging software to the webhosting market... there are tons of companies out there and people will switch for the most minor thing, no loyalty unless you're the biggest player like Wordpress or something.

@Terri I agree, a blog is a good baseline for understanding of a framework. Hello World would just print a line, or maybe you get cool and have it say "Hello, Ken" based on user input. The days of programs that "simple" are over.

@Geoffrey Like I mentioned with Terri, I agree, I'm just tired of seeing new blogging apps. :) Everyone is entitled to a personal rant from time to time. BTW, love PeepCode!

Hilarious!

To clarify my blog post that you linked to, I was referring to the fact that writing a blog is a great way to learn a framework and try out new technical ideas on an unsuspecting live audience.

The point isn't to open source or distribute it, but just to use it as a personal learning experience. As you mentioned, this could involve just a few dozen lines of code or could be a more full-featured thing.

I think Leon sorta nailed it. Blogs are something every developer is familiar with. Blog applications are practical to develop, and have all of the typical web application elements (a public-facing UI, CRUD, images, RSS, email notifications, admin requirements, security requirements, etc). If you can write a blog application you have the basics down for just about any application, so I think they make for a great "Hello World" application. And if you understand blog applications that makes it easier to pick up a new approach/language/platform and dissect, understand, and apply the new knowledge gained.

no offense taken. :) I like building blogs and blog engines. It's a domain I'm familiar with. I've built them in .net, ruby, python, and now in Erlang. :) While I think you're right, I'm actually OK with it. I love competition in the market. I love lots and lots of players and innovation driving who stay or goes. :)

Sorry to bore you. I should point out that you're blogging about this is highly ironic. Nice rant... Just the thing I like reading after spending 89 hours last week trying to do a good thing. I love this industry.

Happy holidays.
